almost 30 years MTV

unfortunately MTV is off the air, but it was 30 years ago that my cartoon, Espresso Depresso premiered on Cartoon Sushi. The coffee culture of Starbucks had yet to take hold and life was free of social media and smart phones…so people were left to confront their deepest woes at the cafe…

the animation was quite primitive due to limited technology, but I was going for a satirical sketch and so staging and animation were limited and emphasis on design, music and dialogue even though the sole survivor just laughs maniacally and pours caffe on his lap.

My art career spans many different venues, industry, and medium. I started out as a political cartoonist in college. I professionally drew for daily and weekly newspapers in the early 1990’s until I discovered the technology to pursue my satire in the animation realm. I moved to the west coast to pursue my animation studies at Cal Arts and then to work for the Cartoon Network, MTV, Disney Interactive, and Nickelodeon. I continued with my independent films that were broadcast on MTV, PBS, the Independent Film Channel, Tech TV, and screened in film festivals in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Vancouver, Toronto, New York, Tokyo, Berlin, and Sao Paulo. I am currently an Associate Professor of Art at Clemson, University.
